Construction that strengthens local communities
Home Ground partners deliver commercial construction across New Zealand. Every partner is locally owned, so the economic value, the jobs and the skills stay in the region.

What this means in practice
Local people employed on local projects
Our partners employ over 1,000 people nationally, creating local jobs, supporting regional economies and building long-term careers.
Apprentices trained in the region
Our partner employ more than 200 apprentices, gaining skills on local projects and building careers in their own communities.
Local subcontractors and suppliers engaged
Our partners work with established local subcontractors, carefully vetted for safety, quality, insurance, licensing and capacity.
Profits retained in the region
Our regional partners are independently owned, 94 employees hold shares, and profits stay within local communities.
Knowledge and capability shared across New Zealand
We share knowledge, systems and performance standards, solving challenges together and continuously raising the bar.
Lower-carbon outcomes through local delivery
Partners use local suppliers, materials and methods to reduce freight and emissions, sharing proven low-carbon approaches across the alliance.
Working with government on economic benefits
We support clients to meet economic benefits goals through practical delivery on the ground. This includes:
Delivery partners are registered on Amotai, New Zealand's supplier diversity intermediary, and include Amotai-accredited Māori and Pasifika businesses when inviting subcontractors to tender. Partners hold their own relationships with local iwi, Māori employment providers and kura in the regions they work in. On the Mana Mokopuna fit-out in Wellington, the end-user group shaped
colours, finishes and the environment directly, and the completed space was marked by a dawn blessing to establish its mauri. On government programmes, Māori and Pasifika business participation is reported quarterly alongside employment and apprentice numbers, so clients can see what has actually been spent and with whom.
Our partners employ their own site workforce and commit to apprentice training. We work directly with apprenticeship providers, industry training organisations and local schools. Because several have operated in the same town for more than 50 years, the pathway runs a long way: apprentice to tradesperson to supervisor, and in some cases to ownership of the business. Home Ground also works with clients on practical barriers, including support for driver licensing, which is often the deciding factor in whether someone in regional New Zealand can take up a trade role.
The alliance gives strong regional contractors access to work they could not win alone. National and multi-region programmes go to large national firms by default. Home Ground changes that. We hold the client contract and coordinate the programme, and each project is delivered by the partner in that region. One recent programme of work was done by our Waikato, Wellington and Canterbury partner with a single client and contract, but three regional businesses growing on the back of it.
Every partner shares a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of the work they deliver, and each brings the knowledge of their own region to it. They know which local suppliers can meet a specification, which materials are available without freighting them the length of the country, and which methods work in their conditions. Those options are then shared across the alliance, so an approach proven in one region becomes available in all eight.
Performance is measured rather than assumed. Our partners hold Toitū Net Carbon Zero Organisation certification, requiring annual emissions measurement to the ISO 14064-1:2018 standard, independent verification and continued reduction. Project-level measures include waste diversion targets with monthly reporting and embodied carbon evidenced through Environmental Product Declarations.
Delivering locally reduces emissions before any of this is applied. Crews and materials are not moved across the country to reach a site.
Built into the model
These outcomes are not an add-on. They are a direct result of how Home Ground is structured – locally owned businesses working together through one national alliance.
