Southland Hospital needed alterations to accommodate a new larger spectral CT scanner. All work took place inside a live hospital, with imaging services continuing throughout. The contract was won through open tender on the Government Electronic Tenders Service.
Delivery ran across five stages to keep services running. New corridor changing and waiting areas came first, then the existing X ray machine was removed and the existing CT scanner relocated to temporary space. Alterations to the CT scan area followed, then office alterations, then reinstatement of the X ray room. Alterations to the scan area covered structural steel, concrete chases, radiology linings, new HVAC, plumbing, fire and electrical services, with lead lined doors and windows, timber joinery, flooring and finishes. A 2.6 metre lead lined sliding door weighing 500 kilograms was installed to the corridor to suit the new scanner orientation and give bed access.
Cleanliness, security and noise control governed the site, with noisy work scheduled and materials moved early in the day. Completed in 2025 to the agreed programme.
