Toi Foundation needed a permanent home in New Plymouth that could serve its own team and the wider community. The starting point was an existing building at 121 Gill Street, which required far more than a refresh to meet that brief.
The work amounted to a full building transformation. Seismic strengthening brought the structure up to standard, followed by a complete interior upgrade and fitout. The project was completed on time and to budget, with a collaborative approach through delivery that the client acknowledged directly.
Toitū House now works as a community hub rather than an office alone. Flexible spaces upstairs support team hui and mahi, while Toitū Te Huatahi on the ground floor is a gathering place for community groups, not for profits and kaupapa driven organisations. The building was designed in partnership with Ngāti Te Whiti, who gifted its name and guided the cultural narrative running through the spaces. It opened in 2025.
