Summerset Stoke is the largest retirement complex in Nelson Tasman, covering more than eight hectares. Construction included dozens of units surrounding a central clubhouse holding a library, lounge, activity areas, bar, gymnasium, spa, pool and sports lawns. The complex also includes a 48 bed apartment block and a hospital building.
Scott Construction took the work over from previous contractors, then met every quarterly target and won the yearly tender contract for the remainder of the project. At the height of construction there were 37 carpenters and 30 subtrades on site.
Early residents were already living in the village while later stages were built around them, so noise and activity limits applied throughout. Despite that and the scale of the work, the complex was completed early and on budget.
