Olive Estate is a large scale retirement village of architecturally designed homes and apartments at Richmond. Construction started in 2014 and has run continuously since, building out the village in stages as demand allows. The village now holds 86 villas, 28 terrace houses and four three level carriage houses.
The Lakehouse sits at the centre of the community, where residents and the wider public meet and socialise. It carries a café, movie theatre, conference room, indoor pool and spa, gymnasium and other shared amenities. The café has a vaulted ceiling with exposed timber and steel trusses, and French bi fold doors open to a landscaped courtyard and lawns.
The Lakehouse was a complex build. Pre nail timber frame and truncated trusses demanded accuracy through the whole structure, and the pool ventilation system was integrated into the water run off channel surrounding the pool. Variation in form, materials and texture disguises the overall scale of the building. Later stages add further villas, an apartment block and a care facility.
