Stand Tū Māia works with children and families who have experienced trauma. The Whangārei Children's Village gives that work a permanent home built around residential character rather than institutional form.
Four buildings total more than 1,550 square metres, alongside over 430 square metres of external decking. Two are family style homes providing warm accommodation for up to 10 people each. A third holds a commercial kitchen, dining hall and gymnasium. The fourth contains administration offices, classrooms, counselling rooms, meeting spaces and a boardroom.
Outdoor facilities include a 200 square metre swimming pool complex, a 360 square metre multi use hardcourt and a caretaker's building. Extensive landscaping carries the welcoming, residential feel through the site.
