Masonic Villages Trust needed to upgrade the care facilities at its Woburn village and deliver an internal fitout. The work required demolition of part of the existing care facility to make way for contemporary one and two bedroom suites. Maycroft was engaged for early contractor involvement and construction, with work starting in early 2021.
The new facility is built around resident and staff needs. Natural light is integrated into a lighting control system that both residents and staff can adjust to preference. The existing hot water plant room was decommissioned and replaced with gas heated boilers sized for winter demand. A modern nurse call system triggers alarms on staff monitors and handheld devices, and two lifts were added to move beds and passengers through the building. Security systems were upgraded throughout.
New concrete slabs were placed across five pours, with bathroom sloped floors prepared and finished after the main pours. Structural steel carries the building for seismic performance. It opened in May 2023.
