The East Stand at Stadium Taranaki was closed after being declared earthquake prone. Its demolition in 2021 cleared the way for a replacement built to serve the region for decades, restoring the venue's capacity and its standing as Taranaki's premier sporting ground.
The redevelopment covers a completely rebuilt East Stand on deep structural foundations, strengthening and re roofing of the West Stand, a GrassMaster hybrid playing surface, upgraded LED floodlighting and associated stadium infrastructure. The new stand carries modern facilities and a flexible layout that works for major events and everyday community use. Cultural narratives run through the design so the venue reflects the identity and heritage of Taranaki.
Clelands was engaged from the outset as early contractor involvement partner, contributing to cost planning, buildability reviews, construction methodology and staging before leading the construction. The stadium remained a live site throughout. It reopened in 2025.
