The ground floor of a Napier office building known as The Whitehouse was converted into a medical practice. The 710 square metre space was gutted and reconfigured for multiple consultation rooms and staff facilities, with a new building entrance including accessible access.
Several conditions had to be worked around. Extensive existing services ran through the roof cavity, asbestos was discovered during demolition, and noise had to be controlled because the floor above stayed occupied throughout. The deadline was tight, so subcontractor coordination carried much of the programme risk.
The architectural intent of the original building was retained while meeting the requirements of both the tenant and the client. The practice opened in 2021.
